6th National Job Fair

The Ministry of Labour & Human Resources (MoLHR) will be organizing the 6th National Job Fair on 7th and 8th of June, 2008 at Swimming Pool Sports Complex, Thimphu.

As all of us are aware that the objective of the National Job Fair is to promote and facilitate employment opportunities in the private and corporate sectors. It is one of the many initiatives of the Royal Government to bring together into a single platform, the job seekers and job providers.

Safari in Bhutan?

In a major initiative, the department of forests (DoF) is looking into promoting eco-tourism in the country’s major parks and sanctuaries.

This means opening up more routes to tourists and Bhutanese to explore Bhutan’s wildlife like never before. “We have protected our natural resources and will continue to do so but the only difference is making it more economically sustainable,” said forests director, Karma Dukpa.

Only registered ABTO members can vote

With the ABTO Annual General Meeting scheduled for the 23rd of May 2008, the ABTO Secretariat sent out the following email to all tour operators saying that you can vote for ABTO Board of Directors only if you have paid your ABTO membership. According to the attached list, only 157 tour operators have paid their membership fees.

New procedure for processing route permit and visa

Route permit for tourists can be processed at the same time as processing tourists visa at the Department of Immigration (DoI) avoiding having to visit DoI twice(once for visa and second time for permit).

Nominees for ABTO Board of Directors

ABTO announced on the 10th of May that:

The ABTO Secretariat, together with the electoral team selected by the Executive Committee Member, consisting of:

  1. Mr. Rinzin O. Wangchuk (Vice President),
  2. Mr. Karma Jamtsho (Executive Committee Member),
  3. Mr. Karma Lotey (Executive Committee Member),
  4. Mr. Tek B. Khatiwara (CRO) and
  5. Mr. Sonam Dorji (General Secretary)

have evaluated the nominations received and short listed the 29 nominees for the ABTO Board of Directors as attached. The nominations were short listed based on securing minimum of 5 nominations per nominee as announced earlier.

Close Shave for Druk Air

May 4th, 2008

A Druk Air plane flying from Bangkok to Paro on May 1 had to turn back after a crack developed in the pilot’s flight deck left window.

A nervous passenger at Paro airport said, “One hour into the flight, the pilot in a nervous voice announced a technical problem and that we’d be flying back to Bangkok.”

Power Dressing - celebration 100 years of Monarchy

Textile Museum in Thimphu will remain closed from 10th April to 10th May 2008. The museum is closed to change the exhibition, which has not seen mush change. The Museum would like to invite visitors to visit after the inauguration of the new exhibit  titled “Power Dressing - celebration 100 years of Monarchy”.

A glimpse of Merak and Sakteng

In what is an entirely new cultural tour package, Rainbow Tours and Treks is taking tourists closer to nomadic herders of Merak and Sakteng in Trashigang.

In a symbolic opening of culturally rich villages of Trashigang like Radhi, Phongmey, Merak and Sakteng to tourists, the people of Merak and Sakteng came to Phongmey with their unique cultural heritage on April 7.
